Louis MacNeice letters and photograph, 1939-1951.

The collection contains two handwritten letters and one photograph. MacNeice writes to Dear Margui, 2 Mar. 1950 and 14 July 1951, mentioning his success of The dark tower and describing his life in Greece. The years are not given on the letters, but MacNeice lived in Greece 1950-1951. The letter of 2 Mar. has a letterhead for the British Institute. This merged with the British Council a few months after MacNeice's arrival in Greece in 1950. The letter of 14 July mentions the visit of Laurence Gilliam, which occured in July of 1951 (Cf. Louis MacNeice in the BBC / Barbara Coulton. London : Faber and Faber, 1980). The photograph is of MacNeice with a group of students on his visit to the Pennsylvania State College, Mar. 1939.

Louis MacNeice (1907-63) was a poet and dramatist.
